“God wants me to be happy”! Is that true? If so, how can you go to a cross while being happy? Yet, it seems that the enemy has slipped a dangerous and ungodly lie into the minds of God’s people. If we believe God wants us to be happy, then we will do whatever makes us happy – even if it is immoral.
Jesus did not go to the cross because it made Him happy! It grieved His spirit. He despised the shame of the cross! However, love conquered all of that. If we do what makes us “happy” we will not fulfill our commitment to Christ or others. The Scripture says, “For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, ‘THE REPROACHES OF THOSE WHO REPROACHED YOU FELL ON ME.”
We are not to seek our own pleasure. We are to seek to do what is right, good, and promotes edification.
“Now we who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves. Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “THE REPROACHES OF THOSE WHO REPROACHED YOU FELL ON ME.””
