Authority

The root of all our problems goes back to the garden of Eden. We see the clear evidence in our culture and in the home. It is rebellion against authority. There is a natural tendency within the human heart to push against the “lines.” Adam and Eve were given boundaries by the Supreme Authority but chose to violate them.

Becoming a follower of Jesus means we bow to the authority of Jesus. As we read the Scriptures we realize that all authority is delegated from God. We are commanded in Romans 13:1 “Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God.”
‭‭
We follow the natural order of authority. God’s authority is supreme. Therefore, if any ruling authority violates God’s authority, we are to honor God over man. However, I have seen that too many Christians are disrespectful to the governing authorities. While I may not agree with whoever is President, we are to demonstrate respect for the office. We are commanded to pray for those who rule over us.

The principle of authority says more about the human heart than anything else. That is why submission to the authority of Jesus is crucial to salvation.
