Is “church” about me?

In the same breath as the challenge to think right about yourself, we are encouraged to think right about community. We are to see ourselves as a part of something much bigger than ourselves. “Many members” make the “one body” that is the church.

We have a tendency to think very individualistically about church. The church is more important than the individual members. The “members” function differently but the purpose is the same – to advance the cause of the church! Spiritual gifts are to be used to benefit the church, not the individual. No person is an island – that is especially true in the church. Instead of thinking of how the church can serve you, begin thinking about how you can serve the church.

“For just as we have many members in one body and all the members do not have the same function, so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” Romans‬ ‭12:4-5‬ ‭NASB‬‬
