What is God’s will for my life? How can I know for certain that what I am about to do is the will of God? It is possible to “prove what the will of God is” as Romans 12:2 puts it. How? First of all, we must understand that knowing and doing the will of God is outflow. In other words, it is the fruit. Just like you cannot make yourself bear the fruit of the Spirit, you cannot suddenly “discover” the will of God.
What about decisions like taking a promotion, changing careers, who to marry, etc? Knowing what decision to make in these situations that “prove the will of God” is based on your worship (see the devotional on Romans 12:1) which is rooted in daily surrender to Christ. It is also based on the transformation and renewing of your mind. So that when your heart is surrendered daily to the “small” decisions and your mind is thinking godly, you will live out the will of God! It is about a relationship, not a decision.
“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2 NASB
