Timeless truths about how to worship. Romans 12:1 teaches us that one of the primary ways you worship God is through your body. How? Present your body as a sacrifice to God! From the time you were born, your body has screamed to have its needs met. Throughout your life, both natural and maybe unnatural cravings lured you into unhealthy or ungodly indulgences. One of the greatest battles you face is keeping the urges, desires, and cravings of your body under the Lordship of Jesus. That means that when you say ‘no’ to the demands of your body in order to honor Christ, you are worshipping God.
Your body is to be presented as a “holy sacrifice.” When you trusted in Christ, you were declared “just” and “righteous” before God. You stand before Him holy. That is your legal position before God. In this lifetime, you are urged to present your body as a holy sacrifice. Your body can become contaminated with sin. Sexual sin is just one example of sinning against your body. Gluttony, laziness, as well as prioritizing the care of your body over the care of your soul are all ways to sin through your body. Your body was purchased with a price! Glorify God by disciplining your body in order to honor Him.
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.” Romans 12:1 NASB
