Timeless truths about worship. There is a popular and very skewed view of worship today. Naturally when we think of worship, we think of church. ‘What time does worship start?’ is a question we assume is about our church services. And 99% of the time we are right. That demonstrates the profound mistaken emphasis on worship. Our thoughts about worship center on an event; biblical worship centers on a lifestyle.
Romans 12:1 shares the first reaction to the tremendous truths about salvation. Based on all that Paul had written about God’s love, grace, faith, justification, patience, atonement, sacrifice, we are to respond with “a reasonable act of worship.” This act of worship is NOT about an hour each week. It is about a daily surrender of ourselves to the Lordship of Christ. It is about 24/7 sacrifice! It is about dying daily. Worship is not fun or easy! It is difficult and challenging.
I believe if we focused more on worshipping God the other 98% of the time, when we get together as a church for corporate worship we will experience a totally different nature of worship. Our focus will be so much more on Him. Our hearts will be centered on sacrifice, love, grace, and faith.
“Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.” Romans 12:1 NASB
