Timeless truths about salvation. In the middle of the three chapters (9-11) Paul addressed God’s sovereignty, he presents the clearest presentation of HOW someone is saved. He presents YOUR part of salvation. You must “confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord.” Confession is agreeing with God. It is not simply speaking words. It is not the words that have power, it is the heart the words reflect. You confess Jesus as LORD. He is God. He is your God. You submit to Him fully.
That confession is based on a belief. You must “believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead.” This belief is the same as faith. You trust God. Your faith is in the death of Jesus as payment for your sin and His resurrection as validation of His Lordship. Then the Bible says, “You will be saved.” It does not say anything about being baptized or other acts of obedience. Salvation is based on faith in Jesus alone.
“But what does it say? “THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART “-that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Romans 10:8-10 NASB
