Timeless truths about covenant. The Bible is divided into covenants – the Old and the New. The Apostle Paul wrote to the church in Rome (Romans) and shared with them the Gospel – the Covenant. I want to explore that book with you. I see the book of Romans divided into three sections: one, entering covenant, chapters 1-8; two, questioning covenant, chapters 9-11; living covenant, chapters 10-16.
The theme verse is 1:16. For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
The Gospel is God’s power of salvation! It is the Covenant ratified by the blood of Jesus on the cross of Calvary. Who is it for? Everyone who believes! That means all are welcome to receive the Gospel. It also means that the Gospel demands a response. Our response is to believe! When you believe, you enter a covenant with God. That covenant is eternal and unbreakable. As we explore Romans we will discover the ways that people try to enter that covenant. However, God sets the basis for the Covenant. He is the One with the power. He has made the Covenant available for all who would believe.
