Timeless truth about truth. In a day when “alternative facts” are plausible, believers must not conform to the world! While there are times when honesty is costly, it is the best policy. It is a pity that so many Christians have cashed in the policy!!!
We know that the devil sells a lie by mixing a lot of truth in it. We certainly do not want to be like the devil. But when we tell a partial truth, it is a lie. You have heard the expression, “It’s a little white lie.” That is a lie! There are no sanitized sins. Satan is the father of lies and when you lie, you are taking on his characteristics. The delusion most Americans seem to buy is that the only way to get ahead is to lie. Friends, that is a lie. God will honor you for truthfulness.
Believers are to be people of integrity. That includes the truthfulness of our words. If we say we are going to do something, we need to do it or we start the slow erosion of our moral fabric. Lying may be in vogue, but it isn’t a virtue. Tell the truth. Let your word be your bond. Be honest.
“But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.” James 5:12 NASB
