“I’m not complaining, but…”

Timeless truths about the Second Coming of Christ. In the context of Christ’s return, James encourages us to be patient and encouraged in heart. Please remember the following words in that context: “Do not complain against one another…” In light of the imminent return of Christ, we are to be motivated to cease complaining about one another. WHY? Because when we complain against another Christian, we are taking the place of a judge. So James says, “the Judge is standing at the door.”

Complaining against someone is judging them. Your complaint is based on your assessment of a shortcoming in the person about whom you complain. While you may say that you would run from sitting in the seat of judgment, when you complain, that is exactly what you are doing. Jesus is our Judge. He will judge every believer with a righteous judgment. Our complaining against others is really a lack of trust in Christ as a righteous judge. If we really believe that He is about to return and He will judge believers, then we should avoid complaining against one another and leave the judging to Jesus!

“Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.” James‬ ‭5:9‬ ‭NASB‬‬
