Timeless truths about temptation. A fish is only “lured” by the bait it wants. The human heart is only tempted by that which it longs for. Another way of putting it is like this: The eye searches for that which the heart hungers.
Too often we think or say that the devil tempted us. The devil cannot tempt you when there is no lust within you! When we are content in Christ, the things of the world loses its luster.
There is a progression in temptation. Please remember that being tempted isn’t a sin. When we are “carried away” by that which our heart desires, we take the bait. Sin is only born when we take the bait. Sin is pleasurable for a while but it ultimately brings death. Since death means separation, sin separates. It separates friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. Sin separates one from God.
The only antidote for temptation is to rivet the truth of God in your mind. Hide it in your heart. Walk with the Living Word! Drink from the living water and mud holes will not appeal to you!
“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.” James 1:13-15 NASB
