Timeless truths about WEALTH. Money can become a person’s primary pursuit in life. Yet money cannot buy what is really important in life! Wealth can buy pleasure but not peace, luxury but not love, fame but not faith. I have never heard one person close to death say, “I wish I had a little more money.” But most people live with the intense desire for a “little more money.” The truth is that when you desire to have more and then get more it feeds the desire for more. Greed grows as it is fed.
Money can create a false sense of security while it truly enhances pride. In addition, wealth fosters independence. It is difficult for a wealthy person to become humble and totally dependent before Christ.
How can a “rich man glory in his humiliation”? By exalting the fact that wealth cannot save, only Jesus can! Those of us who live in America live better than over 80% of the world. You are rich. Remember, wealth fade and withers like the grass. Only what is done out of love for God and others will last the test of time.
“But the brother of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; and the rich man is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. For the sun rises with a scorching wind and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so too the rich man in the midst of his pursuits will fade away.” James 1:9-11
