Timeless truths about STABILITY. “But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” James 1:6-8 “In all his ways” is a very blanket statement.
“Unstable” is an indication of being “double-minded.” Let’s put this all together. When someone prays to God and they ask God for something and even as they ask they do not believe God will give it. That person is “double-minded.” They are of two minds! I often joke that if you have two Baptists in a room, you will have 3 opinions. 😀
God’s word is clear. When we pray with a heart that doubts, we become unstable emotionally as well as spiritually. Everyone has the right to change their mind on a matter. Actually, some need to when they don’t! But here the issue is a steady pattern of instability. This person says one thing and does another. Why? Because they have inner conflict. They are seeking to serve two masters.
If you seek to be a stable, solid, dependable person, then grow in your faith. Determine to become rooted in the Scripture. Know what you believe and why you believe it.
