Timeless truths from Proverbs 1:18-19.
In sharing words of wisdom with his son, Solomon instructs him to avoid the temptation to join others who seek to take advantage of others. Why? They harm themselves even more than those they rob. As Solomon puts it, “They ambush their own lives.”
This truth is repeated several times in Proverbs. He who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him. He who digs a pit will fall into it. Today we say it like this: You’re going to get what you have coming to you.
The fact is that when we seek to take revenge, we suffer. When we refuse to forgive, we suffer. When we are jealous of someone else, we suffer. When we talk someone else down, we suffer. Isn’t it past time to learn that you will reap what you sow? Sow kindness, restraint, patience, love, gentleness, and you will reap the same in your own soul.
“But they lie in wait for their own blood; They ambush their own lives. So are the ways of everyone who gains by violence; It takes away the life of its possessors.” Proverbs 1:18-19 NASB
