Free to say “No”

Timeless truths from Proverbs 1:10.

Choices! If we didn’t have choices we wouldn’t be free. With freedom to choose, comes the responsibility for our choices. For the follower of Christ, once you have chosen to surrender to Jesus, you still face a ton of challenges that involve choices. Don’t think that being a follower of Christ will insulate you from being enticed to sin. We know better.

Sin entices because the residue of the fallen nature is still within us after salvation. That is why we must transform our minds. But a follower of Christ has the power of God within them in the presence of the Holy Spirit. You are no longer a slave to sin. The One who lives in you is greater than the one who is in the world. Therefore, if you choose to “consent” to sin, you have the freedom and the power to say “no.” You are free from sin but not its allurement. Yes, you are free to say no.

“My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.” Proverbs‬ ‭1:10‬ ‭NASB‬‬
