Timeless truths from Philippians 3:2-3.
Strong words for good reasons! Paul’s message is clear: Be diligent in your vigilance to protect yourself against those who seek to encourage you to worship the flesh! Now that sounds absurd, doesn’t it! Who would worship the flesh? Ahh, we worship the flesh when we focus on OURSELVES! The message of “evil workers” is that your confidence should be in you. The focus is all about your self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-fulfillment. It is a message full of self. But it appeals to the flesh. We like to hear about how we can do it… we deserve it… we can dream it… we need it…
Those who are true to God “worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus.” We do not glory or glorify the flesh. There is only one thing to do with the flesh: Crucify it! We “put no confidence in the flesh.” That only creates arrogance and self-righteousness. We glory in the grace of God. We focus on the inner person. Our worship is about the Spirit of God at work, not the flesh being satisfied.
“Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the false circumcision; for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh,” Philippians 3:2-3 NASB
