Timeless truths from John 17:17-19.
The word “sanctify” means to set apart. Jesus prayed that His followers would be sanctified “by the truth.” Then He said, “Your word is truth.”
The truth of God sets you apart in this world. When you know the truth and abide in the truth, you will be set apart from the world. The world dwells in darkness. When you walk in truth, you walk in light.
Sanctification is also a process. When you believed on Christ, you were set apart. But you are also growing in the truth – that means you are being sanctified. Growing in the truth will not happen by accident. It is a result of continued discipline in studying the Scriptures and then living out the truths you learn.
Jesus prayed for the Apostles and He prayed for us! His prayer is that we grow in our walk with Him through His word. Fulfill His prayer by knowing and doing the truth.
“Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. I sanctify Myself for them, so they also may be sanctified by the truth.” John 17:17-19 HCSB
