Responding to Persecution

Timeless truths from John 15:19-21.

Soldiers do not find it shocking or disappointing when the enemy shoots at them. As followers of Christ, we are in a war. The forces of darkness hate the Lord Jesus. Beginning with the time of Satan’s sin, he and his followers have sought to overthrow the rule of God.

Jesus called Satan the “god of this world.” Satan rules over the world system. Because humanity is born with a fallen nature, his work is made easier. Butchers and ruthless rulers have reigned over others. Billions of people today live captive to systems of oppression.

The ultimate target of Satan’s hate is the Lord God. Because you are one of His children, you become an object of his intense hatred. He will use whatever means at his disposal to derail your relationship with your Lord.

Persecution is very real in the world today and has been for the past two millennia! Those of us who live in America are beginning to see the first fruits of the intense hatred of the forces of darkness. Our brothers and sisters in much of the world have been living with persecution their entire lives.

Jesus made it clear that this persecution is rooted in association. Our attitude is to be the same as our Lord. We are to consider it an honor to suffer for the sake of Christ. We must continue to stand on truth. Our strong confidence is that our Lord will prevail in the final day. Fight the good fight with a humble heart. Put on the full armor of God.

“If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of it, the world hates you. Remember the word I spoke to you: ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will also keep yours. But they will do all these things to you on account of My name, because they don’t know the One who sent Me.” John‬ ‭15:19-21‬ ‭HCSB‬‬
